The Czech labor market has undergone a fundamental change. On June 1, 2025, the so-called Flexinovela amendment to the Labor Code came into effect, aiming to respond to the dynamics of today's business environment. For employers, it brings welcome flexibility regarding probationary periods and terminations, while setting a stricter standard for transparency in compensation. At Ambit, we have analyzed the key points you should not overlook.
Selected Key Changes
More dynamic hiring and termination: One of the most significant changes concerns the start of the notice period—it now begins on the day of delivery, rather than on the first day of the following month. The extension of the probationary period to 4 months (up to 8 months for managerial staff) is welcome news, along with a new option for additional contractual extension.
End of wage secrecy: Employers may no longer restrict employees from sharing information about their earnings. This step promotes equal pay, but companies must audit existing contracts—leaving ineffective clauses in documentation may be classified as an offense.
International teams and pay in foreign currency: Companies with an international presence can now pay net wages in foreign currency (e.g., EUR or USD) if the employee has a so-called foreign element. Although contributions and the wage base continue to be calculated in Czech korunas, this change will significantly simplify payroll for expats.
Support for families and digital communication: The amendment guarantees a return to the original job for parents returning from parental leave before the child turns 2, and simplifies the electronic delivery of pay stubs—another step toward fully digital HR.
Conclusion: Don’t Underestimate the Preparation
The Flexi-Amendment offers genuine opportunities to adjust internal processes—opportunities that should be seized. In extreme cases, inaction can lead to substantial penalties from the labor inspectorate.
