In PitchBook’s 2023 annual table, we ranked first among law firms in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) by the number of VC transactions. PitchBook recognised 25 transactions, ten more than the next firm. The result comes after a period in which VC market activity weakened in 2022 and 2023.
In total, we advised on 45 startup investments worth almost CZK 3 billion in 2023 (ePrávo). PitchBook counts transactions under its own methodology, so the two figures differ. We thank our clients for their trust and the entire Mavericks team for its work on each transaction. Since 1 January 2026, Mavericks has operated as Ambit.
From third place to first
In our July article, we wrote about ranking third in CEE in Q1 2023 and first in the Czech Republic. We were third in the regional comparison in the first half of the year. In the second half, we moved to the top position and confirmed it in the annual summary.

First place is not an end in itself. It reflects work on transactions at different stages of company development, from early financing to growth rounds. Our practice covers pre-seed and seed investments as well as Series A and later growth rounds.
How to read the annual result
PitchBook League Tables rank advisers and investors by the number of completed transactions for a given region and category. They are data based, drawing on PitchBook Platform, public sources and information submitted by firms and verified by PitchBook. Rankings therefore reflect the number of recorded transactions, rather than their value or a subjective assessment.
The 25 recognised transactions and ten deal lead over the next firm show the level of activity PitchBook recorded for 2023.
