Ambit represented Nano Energies in negotiations for a venture capital investment from Petr Němec and Petr Zahradník.
The investment, worth hundreds of millions of CZK, was intended to support Nano Energies’ expansion in Central and Eastern Europe and the development of technologies for flexible electricity use. Petr Němec and Petr Zahradník were announced as new shareholders on June 25, 2020.
Nano Energies and its focus
Nano Energies was founded by Petr Rokůsek. At the time of the announcement, the company focused on digitalizing and decentralizing the energy sector, aggregating energy flexibility, and trading electricity on spot markets.
The investment and use of proceeds
The new investors invested hundreds of millions of CZK in the company, according to contemporaneous CzechCrunch reporting. Existing shareholders Petr Rokůsek and Tomáš Janeček also increased the company’s capital through additional contributions.
The proceeds were intended to fund the development of technologies for flexible electricity use and smart management of large power generation facilities and households. The capital was also intended to support the expansion of electricity spot trading into additional European countries.
The technology plans also included developing solutions based on artificial intelligence and enabling smart sharing of renewable energy sources. At the time of the announcement, the transaction remained subject to approval by the competition authority.
Subsequent expansion into Germany and Austria
In September 2020, Nano Energies announced that its Trade division would begin trading in Germany and Austria. The division was already operating in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. Following the expansion, it was expected to trade electricity on spot markets in seven European countries.
