Ambit represented Domotron Holding s.r.o. in its acquisition (M&A) of competitor Haidy a.s.
The combination of Domotron and Haidy was intended to support the development of a new product for existing homes as well as new construction. According to the announced plans, the product would require no structural modifications. Both companies wanted to reduce the need for custom programming on individual home automation projects and share their experience. Jaroslav Menčík, a partner at Ambit, led the transaction.
Home automation systems
Domotron had been active in home automation since 2012. Its solution combined hardware, software and related services. It enabled users to control lighting, shading, heating, cooling and heat recovery ventilation, as well as home security and garden irrigation.
Installation of the system was planned as part of a home's construction. It required wired connections between devices, built-in sensors and space for a central control unit. Domotron thus supplied a system that allowed household technologies to work together.
Acquisition of a Czech competitor
Domotron Holding's acquisition of Haidy gave it 100% ownership of the company. TOUCHIT magazine had reported the takeover on July 19, 2019. Domotron did not disclose the purchase price.
Haidy served both real estate development projects and individual customers. Domotron also cited the companies' similar approaches to home automation as a reason for the combination: both wanted to reduce the need for custom programming on individual projects and share their experience.
Plans for a broader-market product
As described in a contemporaneous CzechCrunch article, the combination was intended to support the development of a new product for existing homes as well as new construction. According to the announced plans, it would require no structural modifications.
Financing for the acquisition was part of a Series A round. Proceeds from the round were also intended to fund international expansion and the launch of the new product.
