Ambit represented Czech startup Vitadio in negotiating a CZK 16 million venture capital investment from the Nation 1 fund and angel investor Petr Skrla.
Vitadio was developing an app that offered people with type 2 diabetes support between medical appointments. The CZK 16 million investment from the Nation 1 fund and angel investor Petr Skrla was intended to support further product development, expansion in the Czech Republic and abroad, and team growth. CzechCrunch magazine reported on the financing on April 22, 2020.
An app to support people with diabetes
Vitadio was developing an app to support patients with type 2 diabetes, particularly in the early stages of the disease. At the time, the company was led by co-founder Jan Šomvársky. The app connected patients with their treating physicians and a nutrition therapist from the Vitadio team, who provided remote support between medical appointments.
The app offered users reminders, personalized tasks, educational materials, and motivational challenges. Together with ongoing support from the therapist, these features were intended to help users build healthy habits and manage their day-to-day self-care.
Investment in product development and expansion
The company planned to use the proceeds from the investment financing to develop its product, expand in the Czech Republic and abroad, and grow its team. At the time of the announcement, it was recruiting for roles including Android and iOS developers.
According to the CzechCrunch article published at the time, Vitadio was primarily focused on the German market. The startup had been operating since 2018, and its first patients were using the app as part of two research studies.
Subsequent developments in Germany
In June 2024, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Rhineland-Palatinate reported that Vitadio had been permanently included in Germany's directory of digital health applications, known as DiGA. Its report on Vitadio's inclusion also states that this digital therapy is provided as part of care covered by statutory health insurance.
